The Diablo Symphony Orchestra joins forces with the Blackhawk Chorus on December 10 at 2:00 p.m. at the Walnut Creek Presbyterian Church in an uplifting program featuring a potpourri of holiday music from around the world, including “Star of Bethlehem” and “Somewhere in My Memory” from John Williams’s score for Home Alone, excerpts from Handel’s Messiah, John Rutter’s “What Sweeter Music,” Mark Wilberg’s arrangement of “Deck the Halls,” the traditional French carol “Sing We Now of Christmas,” and Leroy Anderson’s “Sleigh Ride.” Additionally, Left Coast Chamber Ensemble members Anna Presler, violin, and Leighton Fong, cello, join the orchestra for the world premiere of Ukrainian composer Alex Saratsky’s jazzy Double Concerto for Violin and Cello, followed by an orchestral arrangement of energetic and celebratory klezmer songs and dances.
A discounted adult admission price of $35 is offered for this concert, admission for youth ages 13–17 is $10, and there is no charge for children 12 and under. Advance tickets are available at the Lesher Center for the Arts box office or through the DSO website until 5:00 p.m. on December 9 (1601 Civic Drive, Walnut Creek, 925-943-7469, www.diablosymphony.org). Tickets held at Will Call can be picked up at the box office until 5:30 p.m. on December 9 or on December 10 at the concert venue during the hour preceding the 2:00 p.m. performance.
