A funny feminist thriller about that moment when girls realize the male gaze has been watching all along - and decide they are definitely gonna do something about it. Inspired by a real life incident at a Christian mission in Southeast Asia, this play delves into the lives of four young women faced with a choice.
'Man of God' made its world premiere at East West Players in 2019. The Los Angeles Times calls the world premiere production 'funny, creepy and unflinchingly observed.' Anna Ouyang Moench writes for the hit Apple TV+ television show 'Severance,' which just received fourteen Emmy nominations, including a nomination for Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series and Outstanding Drama Series.
'Man of God,' the fourth main stage production in Shotgun Players' 30th Anniversary Season, will be presented live and in-person on the Ashby Stage beginning September 2 and running through October 3, 2022. In addition to live, in-person performances, they are also pleased to offer two live-stream performances on September 15 and September 22, 2022. They're also offering a video-on-demand October 5 through October 16, 2022. They're working with Berkeley Community Media to provide a high-definition, cinema-quality experience for those audience members who would prefer to enjoy 'Man of God' and support the Shotgun Players from the comfort of their own homes.
They're also proud to offer a special haptic tour and performance for blind and low vision patrons on Sunday, September 18. We've partnered with Gravity Access to offer a haptic tour at 3:30pm, followed by the performance at 5 pm. For further accessibility, a video-on-demand with closed captioning available will also be available October 5 through October 16, 2022.
The play features Joyce Domanico-Huh, Lauren Andrei Garcia, Chuck Lacson, Alexandra Lee, and Sharon Shao. Directed by Michelle Talgarow.
Presented by Shotgun Players.
