The Tacoma Youth Symphony was created during the summer of 1963 at PLU as an outreach program of the Tacoma Arts for Youth Council. The 28 students who participated in the summer program fell in love with it and begged to be allowed to continue once the school year started. Over the last 60 years, the Tacoma Youth Symphony Association has grown from one orchestra to 5 orchestras plus adjunct programs and draws students from all over Western Washington. Through tours to Europe, Carnegie Hall, Washington, D.C., and Boston, the Tacoma Youth Symphony has gained an international reputation.
Come join us as we celebrate 60 incredible years of youth creating joyous music! This concert will feature all of the ensembles of the Tacoma Youth Symphony Association.
