Deeply Rooted: The Tree of Life Artist Talk

Beverly Penn, One of the featured artists in Deeply Rooted: The Tree of Life will speak about her artistic practice at the opening reception for the exhibition on March 30 at 6:30 pm.


Beverly Penn, Professor Emerita at Texas State University creates delicate cast bronze sculptures of plant forms that reference taxonomic structures, nature as merchandise, and the tension between the culturally contained and the wild. Beverly Penn is a recipient of a Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Grant and was named as a Texas State Artist of the year in 2017. 


Also featured in the exhibition is the work of Katie DeGroot. She is a painter interested in the abiding presence of trees as particular survivors and as members of a community. Her playful narrative paintings of lichen festooned tree branches emerge through her process of observational painting. She is represented by Markel Fine Arts New York, NY; Gut Gallery, Houston,TX; and Gris Gallery, Hudson, NY.
