Overlap is excited to announce a series of “pop-ups” this holiday season. As part of our mission to connect exceptional artists and makers with our customers and collectors we will be hosting one artist or studio each Saturday from 11/18 through 12/16. This is an opportunity to meet the people who create some of our favorite designs, see more of their work, ask them questions and support your local creative community. All of the proceeds from these sales go directly to the artist themselves. Refreshments will be served!
Didi Suydam
Didi Suydam Contemporary, Jamestown, RI
In addition to her impeccable metalworking skills, Didi imbues her work with her deep respect for the intimate relationship between jewelry and its wearer. She believes “jewelry is our personal armor; strengthening us, and anchoring us, while reflecting and expressing our inner sense of self.” She “seeks out the minimal, the archetypal and the iconic” while making forms that “respond to the landscape of the body.” Didi received her MFA degree in Jewelry/Light Metals from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1985. Besides her jewelry practice, she owned a contemporary art and jewelry gallery for 15 years. Her awards include a Fellowship in Craft from The National Endowment for the Arts, and fellowships from RI State Council on the Arts in Craft and Design. Her work is in the collection of the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the Wustum Museum, and Xerox Corporation, among others.
