Selecting the Ingredients: How to Identify Racism in Calgary
By Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

You are invited to join SAIT’s Black Employee Resource Group to continue the conversation about racism. Following the discussion of the life and legacy of John Ware, this edition will explore how racism directly and indirectly operates in Canada and in Calgary specifically. Using the metaphor of baking a cake, we will start by “selecting the ingredients”. The ingredients—or the elements which cause racism—will be analyzed through sharing the lived experiences of racism provided by the SAIT community. The goal is to better understand what racism is, how it operates in systems and interactions between people, and how it feels. Jon Cornish, CFL Hall of Famer and President of the Calgary Black Chambers, will return to facilitate the discussion.
