Believe it or not, Seraglio is a light-hearted comic masterpiece, an instant hit when it launched in Vienna in 1782, and much enjoyed today, for its beautiful and demanding arias and ensembles as much as its (sometimes grimly) comic situations.
Stately but intimate, Shaw House’s Great Hall is a dream location for this English-language performance by Kennet Opera, Newbury.
