Held By Trees +Verra Cruz
By David
Held By Trees is a new instrumental project led by composer/producer David Joseph. Sitting somewhere between post-rock and prog, the biggest influence is late Talk Talk and Pink Floyd. Indeed, the debut album, ’Solace’ features seven veterans of the much-venerated Talk Talk albums Spirit of Eden and Laughing Stock, as well as frontman Mark Hollis’ only solo album. Joining them on the album are luminary musicians such as Tim Renwick (Pink Floyd, David Bowie, Eric Clapton), Mike Smith (Blur, Gorillaz, Jamiroquai), blues roots legend Eric Bibb, and Dire Straits co-founder David Knopfler.
The live iteration of Held By Trees features Robbie McIntosh on guitar (Talk Talk/Mark Hollis, Paul McCartney, John Mayer, The Pretenders), Andy Panayi on Flute, Sax and Clarinet (Mark Hollis, Paul McCartney, Ronnie Scott), Laurence Pendrous on Piano (Mark Hollis, Anja Garbarek), and Paul Beavis on Drums (Andy Fairweather-Low. The Waterboys, Bill Wyman).
Some press quotes…

“A fascinating project… Rekindles the spirit of Talk Talk to startling effect… channels their psychedelic post-rock vibe to an almost eerie degree.”
– Prog Magazine

“A tantalising project evokes the spirit of latter-era Talk Talk and David Gilmour-led late-period Pink Floyd… A gorgeous record, highly recommended for fans of Hollis’ sparse aesthetic.”
– Classic Pop Magazine

“Solace is played beautifully throughout…there are striking moments like the massive fuzz guitars of The Tree of Life segueing into a dialogue of muted brass…”
– Mojo Magazine
