Description
The City of Sandpoint, Idaho, is pleased to announce the unveiling of the first ever public
demonstration of Solar Roadways on Friday, September 30, 2016, at 3:00 p.m. PST. The unveiling
ceremony and project will be located in the City’s Jeff Jones Town Square and it is open to the public.
Following the unveiling, Scott and Julie Brusaw, founders of Solar Roadways, Inc. will be available for a
meet and greet and brief questions with the public. There will not be time for individual interviews with
press representatives at the unveiling ceremony or following public event.
The City of Sandpoint and Solar Roadways, Inc. will hold a joint press conference at 1:00 p.m. PST on
September 30, 2016, in the conference room at the Columbia Bank Building, 414 Church Street,
Sandpoint Idaho. Doors will open at 12:30 p.m. Attendance is available to credentialed journalists who
work for a publication, news service, broadcast outlet or news site that is regularly issued and published
primarily for the dissemination of news. Media outlets will be allowed up to two representatives each
and must obtain press passes for this event by contacting the City of Sandpoint’s Clerk at
clerk@sandpointidaho.gov
and providing the following information: news organization, first name, last
name, address (including city, state and zip code), country, phone number, and email address. Press
credentials should be requested as soon as possible, and no later than 24 hours before the event.
Beginning September 30, 2016, the City of Sandpoint will have a live webcam link on its website at
www.sandpointidaho.gov for interested individuals unable to view the demonstration in person. It will
be available 24 hours a day. There will also be information about energy generation/use by the panels
available as well.
Located in downtown Sandpoint, the project encompasses 150 square feet of the Town Square and the
project will provide for proof of concept testing of the Solar Roadways SR3 panel in a pedestrian/bicycle
application. Heating elements built into the panels will ensure a snow and ice-free walking path and the
embedded LED lights will be featured in interactive displays to engage children and families.
The project was funded primarily through a GEM Grant awarded by the Idaho Department of Commerce
as well as a grant awarded by the Sandpoint Urban Renewal Agency.
