Music: Purple Hurt / Upchuck / Baby Sp1der

Upchuck is band based out of Atlanta formed in 2018. The sound has been developed by pulling from influences in punk, garage rock, psychedelic, doom and hip hop.

Upchuck’s high-energy punk dirges spark chaos in the pit every time the group takes the stage. With no social media presence, the young five-piece’s early success relies on word-of-mouth — and word is spreading like wildfire. In most of their communications, each member of the group is identified only as KT (vocals), Mike (guitar), Hoff (guitar), Armando (bass), and Chris (drums). In less than a year, Upchuck has become one of the most talked about bands in the Atlanta punk scene, as tales of crowd surfing, sweat, and bloody noses follow in the wake of every show. KT, who also fronts the electronic pop outfit Sanguine, commands the room with an intriguing and otherworldly stage presence, her voice reverberating with hits of garage-punk, psychedelia, and doom, all pulsing with a punk energy that leaves their guitars in pieces. Upchuck has an East Coast tour leading up to an August 24 show at Afropunk Fest in Brooklyn. As of press time, only three demos exist on Upchuck’s Bandcamp page, but the group is currently writing and recording at Grey Cat Studios with Patrick Phillips. A new release is due out by the end of the year.

Purple Hurt

A word of advice on coming to a Purple Hurt show:

1. Come prepared to move.
2. Leave all expectations at the door.
3. If you catch Sed’s wig, give it back.
4. If you can’t fight, stay out the pit.
5. ...But don’t start no fights in the pit.

Purple Hurt is genre defying band of your dreams. Formed in the DMV, the band is creating their own lane. THe only way to describe their sound is Sacardic, a self defined genre that refuses to be boxed in. With colorful chords performed by Hurtful C on guitar, Intoxicating screams by Sednah on vocals, blood pumping rhythms by Baby Zesus on drums, melancholy melodies from Helmet Gyal on bass, and space altering synths by Ib K. on the keys, Purple Hurt is giving transcendence. They’re giving multi dimensions. They’re giving unapologetic authenticity.

This is Baby Sp1der. She is a DJ. She is from Atlanta, born and raised. She was raised a bit in Brooklyn too, but that was before she dropped out of art school. She hates writing bios. If she was put on this earth to write bio's, she wouldn't be playing tracks around the world. And by the world, I mean London, Paris, Berlin, Toronto, New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Detroit, Austin, Chicago, and then some. If she was put on the earth to write bios, then kids like the ones at Awful Records, Yung Baby Tate, Upchuck, and DEADDOGS wouldn't hit her up to play shows. Yes, that was a big flex. We hope you enjoy Baby Sp1der as a seemingly musical act, because she came to do what she does best; play tracks and fuck everything up.
