After a hiatus of two years due to COVID-19, the Staten Island African Arts & Cultural Awareness Festival (Africanfest NYC) is back!
The festival will be held at Maker Park, 450 Front Street, from 12pm - 7pm August 27 and 28.
This year, the highlight of the festival is the "Special Tribute to all those lost during the COVID-19 Panedemic"
The Festival will feature live entertainment from the nationally acclaimed "Kora Musicians" from Senagal, "Talking Drums" prodigy from Nigeria, "Balafon" Instumentalists from Gambia, Ghanian African Dancers, a special Dance Performance by Prof. Charles Thomas (retired head of African Studies at CSI), Alkebullan African Dance Group, and more.
Arts, Crafts, and Food vendors will also be in attendance. Awards will be handed out to several community members making positive impacts. Elected officials will also be in attendance.
This event is funded in part by the New York State Council on the Arts, a state agency Statewide Community Regrant Program with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature; administered by Staten Island Arts.
