Nearby Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of Big Paintings, a solo exhibition featuring select works by artist Andrew Fish. This exhibition will have an opening reception on April 2nd, 2022 from 6 to 9:00pm, and will remain on view until May 4th, 2022.
Big Paintings features a collection of Andrew Fish’s largest works from the last six years, focusing primarily on the artists’ interpretation of what it means to exist as an individual within an urban environment. Shaped by his experiences living in New York and Boston, Fish paints the lone figure as an allegory for the existential nature of city living. Through this lens he documents contemporary life and asks the viewer to consider what it means to be an individual residing in a modern city.
Additionally, energetic paintings of the storied New York nightclub Limelight depict crowds of people dancing and celebrating nightlife, losing themselves in a throng of revelers. These retrospective paintings offer a glimpse into the past while anticipating a post-pandemic future of social gatherings.
