False Refuge  - A solo exhibition by Marlise Keith
17/04/2021 UNTIL 08/05/2021

Marlise Keith works with mixed media collages, pencil drawing, ink and acrylic, as well as, small sculptures of fabric, embroidery and found objects.

She draws inspiration from a mental medley of subjects which are processed through her mark-making; offering an alternative “understanding” of a world that often does not make sense in traditional, logical language.  R5 Store purchases and luxurious fabrics are juxtaposed with found objects and further worked with embroidery, intricate line, paint, and sequins.

The result is a richly layered body of work both violent and uncanny, made more surreal with a playful use of colour and humour. The latter draws in the viewer  to the darker complexities lurking beneath, which offer endless possibilities of meaning.
