The Paper Doll Revolution: Flipping the Script on the Female Stereotype
Please join us Thursday, June 6, 2019 7pm for the private opening
reception for art exhibit and performance of The Paper Doll Revolution:
Flipping the Script on the Female Stereotype, a multimedia art exhibit
produced by the Staten Island Urban Center’s Young Women’s Leadership Group
at Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Garden – Building P at the
Winter Garden Room & Lobby. The exhibit will be open to the public through
Sunday June 9.

The exhibit is a culmination of a journey of exploration for the Young
Women’s Leadership Group. Young women ages 13-18 from the program examine
the current lens of traditional imagery and experiences of women and
transformed them into new expressions of empowerment, identity, and
revolutionary transformations. Using a multimedia approach including visual
art, dance, music, and spoken word, the young artists present a new vision
for young women.

The Staten Island Urban Center’s Young Women’s Leadership Group
incorporates cultural exploration, gender studies and social activism into
leadership training while using art and music as mediums for learning. The
program is supported by the NYC Council’s Young Women’s Leadership
Initiative, Councilmember Debi Rose, NYC Department of Youth and Community
Development, Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Garden, Staten Island
Arts, Lyric Lab, Olga Ayala Handicrafts, Shani Mitchell Productions, Maker
Park Radio, Staten Island Makerspace and individual donors.
