Concert & Inspirational talk:

'The Power of Singing Our Prayers: An Inspirational Talk and Concert by Matthew Hammond and Davya Flaharty'

Matthew and Davya will share their own personal stories about how the singing of Christian Science hymns -- the ones we know well AND the ones they have composed themselves and with others in their workshops -- have led to phenomenal transformation and healing. This duo from Texas and Alaska will share some of the powerful hymns and songs from their just-released album Love Only GrowsCome ready to be inspired and to sing with Matthew & Davya as we all sing our prayers together!

Davya Flaharty is the soloist at her Branch church in Fairbanks, Alaska. She received her first guitar hymnal in her late Sunday School years, shortly after picking up guitar. Within a year or two she sang her first solo (actually a duet with her sister) for a Sunday service. Over the years, Davya edited this guitar hymnal by simplifying the chords and adding more hymns to her collection. The 2017 hymnal was so refreshing and inspiring. Davya again set to work learning more hymns to sing and play for her congregation. In the fall of 2020, Davya came across a hymn writing workshop online, taught by Matthew Hammond. After some hesitation, she signed up only to discover a group of guitar playing, hymn-singing Christian Scientists! Another incredible discovery was the harmony in Matthew and Davya's voices which led to a singing partnership, an explosion of songwriting and the unfoldment of their duet album, Love Only Grows.  Davya and her husband Tyson have two children: Eevy (10) and Fynn (6). They are an active bunch enjoying everything Alaska has to offer!

Matthew Hammond is a singer-songwriter and recording artist from Austin, TX who also teaches songwriting workshops for teens and adults. This past year he was inspired to form a music ministry around the powerful, healing music of Christian Science with his duet partner Davya Flaharty, whom he met through one of his hymn writing workshops 2 years ago. Their movement is named after the album they just released:  Love Only Grows  https://loveonlygrows.org  Matthew and his wife Liz have three children: Malaya (15), Khalil (13) and Surya (11). They all play music together, enjoy the outdoors and adventure travel as well as a wide variety of sports.

Matthew and Davya have also been active with DiscoveryBound this past year teaching adults online how to play some of the most beloved hymns on guitar. They have already toured Texas, California, and Florida with their families and will be in Atlanta, Washington, DC and NYC in April.
