DB Outreach: Teen Climbing Weekend in Red Rock, Nevada

Teens grades 7-12 bring a friend and join us for a weekend camping and climbing in Red Rock Canyon, NV! Located just outside Las Vegas in the Mojave Desert, Red Rock Canyon is globally renowned for its geologic and cultural significance and is one of the top climbing locations in the United States. Whether you’re an experienced climber or a complete beginner, our accredited climbing guides and DiscoveryBound staff will set you up for success – whatever that looks like for you! No prior climbing experience is necessary. This is a great opportunity to try something new or expand your skills!

 

Activities

• Outdoor climbing for all experience levels with accredited guides
• Camping together under the wide-open desert sky
• Exploring the uniquely beautiful Mojave Desert and its history
• Church and Sunday School together in nearby Las Vegas, NV 

Accommodations

We will be car camping and teens will stay in shared, same-gender tents. Our campsite will have running water, composting toilets, and a picnic shelter. Meals will be prepared as a group!

What's Included

Professional climbing instruction and guiding; climbing equipment and shoes; meals beginning Saturday breakfast to Sunday lunch; group cooking gear; tents; group first-aid kit; camping fees.

 

Registration

• Registration Fee: $160 
• Deadline to Register: October 15, 2023
• Cancellation Fee: $80
• No Refund deadline: September 30, 2023

Financial aid is available for registration and air travel

• Up to $80 for registration
• Up to $300 for air travel

 

Items Available for Rental

• Sleeping bag rental - $25
• Sleeping pad rental - $15 

*If additional items are needed, Katie can help you find a third-party rental ahead of the trip*

 

Weather 

Daytime temperatures usually range between 60° and 70° F, with evening temperatures dropping into the 40s and 50s. We'll be sending a detailed packing list ahead of the trip.

 

Payment & Cancellation Policy:

Full payment is due at sign-up (unless applying for registration financial aid: up to $80 per person available for registration, and up to $300 per person toward airfare.)

 

If you decide to cancel your trip, the following fees apply and are due when we receive notice of your cancellation:

• Up to 21 days (September 30) prior to trip = 50% of the total trip cost is non-refundable
• 0 to 20 days prior to trip = 100% of the trip cost is non-refundable

If DiscoveryBound cancels a program/event, you will receive a full refund of the registration fee. (If a participant decides to cancel a registration then the cancellation policy for that specific DiscoveryBound event / program applies.) 

 

As you are preparing air travel for these excursions, we encourage you to book flights allowing you the greatest flexibility in case there is a need.

 

Flying/Driving Parameters

 

Flying: Harry Reid International Airport - Las Vegas, NV (LAS) 

• Arrive at LAS on Friday, October 20 between 11:00-5:00 pm
• Depart LAS on Sunday, October 22 after 2:00 pm

Driving: First Church of Christ, Scientist - Las Vegas, NV 

• Arrive at FCCS, Las Vegas on Friday, October 20 at 6:00 pm
• Depart from FCCS, Las Vegas on Sunday, October 22 at 12:00 pm
