Soul Shakers (Blues & Funk)

Hosts of the annual "Winter Blues Guitarmageddon" shows at The Scranton Cultural Center at The Masonic Temple, The Soul Shakers, will perform at the 2018 Rooftop Concert Series at the Hotel Anthracite in Carbondale, PA with the Soul Shakers Blues Revue. The show will highlight performances by three guitarists all backed by The Soul Shakers Rhythm Section.

From straight ahead blues to ripping funk to R&B, The Soul Shakers is a rhythm section that features Sharon O’Connell on drums, bassist Bill Coleman and Eric Brody on keyboards. Through hundreds of performances together, they’ve become of the most dynamic rhythm sections in the NEPA region backing some of the best musicians Northeastern Pennsylvania has to offer. Members of The Soul Shakers has recorded and/or performed with numerous artists in New Jersey, Colorado, Louisiana, Tennessee, Kentucky and New York and have been nominated three years running for the Steamtown Music Awards Blues Act of the Year. The Soul Shakers show will present three separate acts with guitarists Peter Florance, Jesse Mower and Matt Bennick.

We're sorry to say that Peter Florance will be unable to perform with The Soul Shakers at the Hotel Anthracitefor the Summer Sounds show on the rooftop on Friday. However, we're happy to announce that New Orleans own sax ace Andy Bower will be performing a set with us there!
Andy grew up in Northeast Pennsylvania and started playing saxophone at the age of 10. By age 22, he had moved to New Orleans, where he currently teaches, performs, writes, and records music for a living. During his years in New Orleans, he has played nearly every club on the city's famed Frenchmen Street, including Snug Harbor, The Maison, The Spotted Cat, Cafe Negril, and Blue Nile. He has also performed at legendary hot-spots like Tipitina's and Howlin' Wolff, and many of the city's great festivals- French Quarter Fest, Bayou Boogaloo, and Jazz in the Park to name a few. He was a quarter-finalist for the 2017 GRAMMY award in music education, and has still found time to garner several recording credits as well.

Carbondale native Jesse Mower has been making a name for himself in regional music circles. His prowess on the electric guitar; belies his relatively young age. He is the lead guitarist/ vocalist for local power trio Static in the Attic, which performs in regional clubs and festivals. Mower has also performed limited shows with The Soul Shakers. He brings a wide variety of influences to the stage drawing inspiration from classic rock to old school blues. Jesse recently performed with Mike MiZ at the Guitarmageddon III show in February.

Also performing is Matt Bennick, a virtuosic guitarist on the regional blues scene. Bennick began playing guitar at the age of 6 and as a teenager, he was lured towards blues and jazz guitar styles of Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Brian Setzer, Johnny Winter, and Stevie Ray Vaughn. Later, going down a path of funk, jazz and soul music, he always added the blues influence, developing his unique style as his original material reflects. Matt won The Guitar Center Scranton's King of The
Blues Award in 2009 and appeared at Guitarmageddon I in 2016.

The concert begins at 7:00pm on the roof of the Hotel Anthracite parking garage, 25 South Main Street, Carbondale, PA.
