Pre-Service Trainings:

CAU facilitates each of the following state mandated trainings through the College of Direct Support (CDS) including:

• Shifting Expectations (formerly Overview of Developmental Disabilities)
• Preventing Abuse & Neglect
• Medication

These trainings plus American Red Cross CPR & First Aid make up the five pre-service trainings required for direct support professionals working with individuals with various needs. Trainings are offered:

Shifting Expectations
Mondays from 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM*

Preventing Abuse & Neglect
Mondays from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM*

Medication
Tuesdays from 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

*for those weeks that have a Monday holiday, trainings will be held on the Tuesday of that week

All trainings are facilitated at the CAU Main Office at 80 West Grand St. Elizabeth, NJ 07202 for a fee of $50 per class for each individual. Interested DSP’s may take advantage of a package deal for trainings and pay $100 to take Preventing Abuse & Neglect, Shifting Expectations and Danielle’s Law training.

Individuals taking these pre-service trainings must be employed by an agency approved by the Division of Developmental Disabilities and be pre-registered with the CDS prior to training.

Individuals taking the training must be registered and must pay in advance. Cancellations with at least 24 hours notice will result in a full refund available up to 7 days after the scheduled class. Organizations sending employees must complete a Memorandum of Understanding.  This must be signed and returned before participants are officially registered for the group training class.
